Treating Celiac Disease .

Both adults and children are susceptible to Celiac Disease and it can start at any age. Celiac Disease is triggered by eating certain foods which contain protein gluten. To date, there is no treatment for the disease; however, a change in your diet will help keep the disease under control.

Foods such as pasta, cereal, pizza crust, and bread can trigger a reaction in the small intestine leading to further damage of its inner lining.

Also known as Gluten Sensitive Enteropathy or Celiac Sprue, Celiac Disease can cause nutrition deficiency in children who have contracted the disease. Any foods which contain a fair amount of gluten will affect the digestive system.

Occuring at any age, Celiac Disease can easily go undetected until gluten is introduced into the diet. Celiac Disease is also hereditary and if a family member has the disease then there is between a five and fifteen percent chance you will also contract the disease.

In some cases the disease is mistaken for other allergic reactions, however, symptoms include severe stomach pains, abdominal pains, mouth sores, skin rashes and diarrhoea. All most all sufferers will also suffer from foul smelling stools and diarrhoea.

Celiac Disease can be triggered by many different factors such as a pregnancy, physical injury, trauma, severe stress or even surgery.

To keep the disease under control then the first step to take is to change to a gluten free diet. Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh meat, fish, poultry and rice and potatoes is a good replacement for wheat products. You should be back to your normal self within weeks as a change in your diet will eventually enable the intestine to repair itself.

Thesedays, dietary options are not as limited as they once were and sticking to the correct diet will keep Celiac Disease under control.
